Travel Horror Stories ... And Then Some ...

My previous post spoke of a trip away from home. The destination this time around was Barbados. With all the excitement of Miss Emily and the closing of the airport road, up to Sunday morning, I was still unsure of what would happen at this point. However, our travel agent called to let us know that the airport road was opened and that some flights were delayed (as was the case with ours) or cancelled but we should go to establish the status of our flight. So, I arrived at the airport at about 9:50 a.m. after much rush to get all packed, say goodbyes, give kisses and start on the journey that I wish I didn't have to do. Little did I know that with the series of events that followed, it because the trip from hell (again!).

The flight had been delayed until 2:30. At 2:30 we heard that the flight was again delayed till 3:30, then till 4:25. At about 4:45, we started to board the plane, only to be told thatwe would not be able to board because the security checks had not been done. We were finally allowed to board the plan at about 5:05 p.m. While on board, we had to again wait until the catering service came with the food for the plane. We finally left at about 5:35 p.m. So, we're on our way, and I'm thinking, finally, we're on our way and hopefully will reach and all will be well. Ha! Fat chance of that happening! About 45 minutes into the flight, the pursar came on the horn and gave her usual update, only in her monologue, she made no mention of "continuing service to Barbados" but only spoke to people getting off in Grenada. Of course, all the Barbados-destined passengers started to enquire about what was happening. Miss Pursar came back on the horn and said: "To our passengers destined for Barbados, unfortunately (this is not a word you want to hear when you're in an airplane 35,000 ft above land) we do not have any information to provide at this time, further info should be available when we get to Barbados".

You can imagine my distress when after speaking with the pursar myself, she telling me a bunch of crap about the airline's contingency in the event of a hurricane blah blah blah and storage of equipment in non-affected areas and the need to retrieve such equipment. So I said to her quite calmly .. "Why unu mek wi board di plane in Ja if unu did well know seh we would not be going to Barbados???" ... She couldn't answer the question.

So ... 'WELCOME TO GRENADA'. We arrived about after 10, claimed our luggage and was transported to "The Flamboyant Hotel" (believe me, nothing flamboyant about it) where we spent the night and ate at Air J's expense till the next day.

Upon arriving to the airport the following day, our flight was again delayed and we left at about 5:25 p.m. and arrived in Barbados on Monday evening at 6:05 p.m. Needless to say, a colleague of ours was leaving on B-Wee on Monday afternoon and he arrived the same time we did coming from Grenada!

I wish I will never have to travel again! It has been so unpleasant for me the last 3 times.

The silver lining behind my travel cloud was to arrive at the newly opened Hilton Barbados where we stayed this time around. Can you all say F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S!!! Di place bashy, tuff and just plain nice. I just wish I was there on vacation and not to work and that the BF and I could be rolling around in the sack or getting it on in the see through shower in the room! Wow!!

I did develop the flu on Tuesday night which sort of put a little damper on the stay but apart from that, it was an ok trip. I had the opportunity to eat at a greek restaurant which wasn't all that but at least now I can say I've had greek food, Souvlaki to be exact!!

More time everyone.

PS. This post was long overdue! I started writing this on July 19 ... better late than never!

I don't know what you heard about me ...

In honour of Miss Margo's I'm In A Mood, here is my top ten list of celebrities I would be caught on the internet with if I was "Paris Hilton" aka super slut for a day:

I feel the need for speed whenever I see Jeff Gordon. He has a "mousketeer" look to him but I could see myself making him blossom into a real man. Wanna rev my engine Jeffy??

When one hears the name Napoleon, one immediately things of the powerful Napoleon from the 18th century. But, I would join the Geek Squad in a heartbeat to get jiggy with John Heder - Mr. Napoleon Dynamite himself.

Will Smith, The Fresh Prince of Belair ... what the hell is he doing with Jada? Yeah she's hot but she's way too short for him. He needs to get with a real woman, all 5'4" of me ... yeah ... I'm all woman Will!

John Travolta, Mr. Saturday Night Fever, with all the sexy dance moves and cute ass to boot ... c'mon baby ...

Jaoquin Phoenix .... I like them kinda weird. From Signs to The Village, this guy is just creepy and I'm lovin' it.

U2's Bono ... absolutely sexy. I would luv to get stuck in a moment and can't get out ... with him!!

Sean Paul, Dutty Yeah ... I wanna get dirty with you Sean Da Paul ... Let's Get Busy!! Forget Sasha and Blu Cantrel.

LL Cool J - everyone's always talking about the way he licks his lips and I just have to concur with them. I would gladly have those lips all over me (if I wasn't spoken for of course) ... it is indeed tantalizing.

50 Cent, NYC Thug who's just the type of chocolate I like - DARK! I don't know what you heard about me "fitty", but I'd like you to be my P.I.M.P., give me the Magic Stick and I'll take you to my Candy Shop ... uh huh

And my #1 celebrity I would be caught on the internet with is

Usher Raymond - He's got my program. I don't care how many confessions he's made. When he gets with me, there will be no need for confessions unless it is about how much he loves me!!

So there you have it. If I were Paris Hilton for a day .... man, I'd be really naughty!
This is a pre-Hurricane Emily sky. It is amazing how beautiful the place looks right before a disaster!! Posted by Picasa

Home and Away

My job has once again called upon me to be away from home. This time, it's only for one week but any time away from my love is torture for me. I'm scheduled to leave on Sunday (provided Emily stays away from Jamaica) and return the following Saturday.

I don't mind the exposure and the change in scene but it is just not fun to be away from home, missing him terribly. At least I won't be alone as my colleagues will be there with me but it is just not the same.

Just letting you know that I may not be blogging during this time so not to worry ... I won't be in a coma or anything :-)

Once Again Spared

As you all would have heard by now, Hurricane Dennis was on path for Jamaica but once again we were spared the wrath of a full blown hurricane, suffering only storm winds and rain. It was still devastating to some areas but for the most part, we have again been blessed by God. I'm a little late in posting (as usual) but hope that everyone fared well on Thursday.

I'm a bit down in the dumps right now but will be getting that dirt off my shoulders and doing my thing.

Take care everyone.

I wish I could have gotten a closer picture of the full moon on June 21. It was absolutely captivating. Posted by Picasa
Last night I had the pleasure of attending the "International Comey Festival 2K5" at the Hilton. It was amazing. I have not laughed so much at one time in a while. Tony Hendriks, Jamaican Paleface who closed the show delivered a top class performance, although in my opinion, he was not the best performer of the night. He did have me laughing but some of the best of the acts of the night was Trevor Eastmond from Barbados, Donna Hadad from Trinidad (I think), Ity and Fancy Cat, and of course, Christopher "Johnny" Daley and Donald "Iceman" Anderson. They stole the show for me. Comedy and Music are 2 powerful elements in our interaction as a people. These are 2 things that can bring us together, people from all cultures, all walks of life, no matter our circumstance.

One topic which featured in several acts was the issue about gays ... (man, can't go anywhere, or read anything without hearing about gay people). Now, one act told the story about going to a particular caribbean island which referred to gays as "Bulla" ... which happens to be a long time treat for Jamaicans. They went on to say that during their act was talking about how much they like "Bulla" and remarked at the # of men who were waiting for them backstage as a result of that statement. It is amazing how different things are viewed and interpreted in different cultures. Even the Bajan comedian was making fun of his own people. The usual acts J'Cans love, the imitations of the Prime Minister, ex-Leader of the Opposition, Bob Marley were all featured. On a whole, the show was great and I got more than my money's worth for 4 hours full of laughter. It was a lovely end to a great and wonderful weekend for me!

Hope it was good for everyone else too!!

Pussies & Dogs

Ok, Ok, get your minds out the gutter. This is not a post about a sex orgy in which I participated with 3 girls and 2 guys ... :)

I'm speaking about the weather ... it's been raining pussies and dogs since last night and I've been loving it. It's just so wet! It's raining right now, I'm on the net, the internet is playing "Madonna - Frozen", my baby is asleep in my bed. What more can I ask for right now? I'm simply loving today!

Do You Believe Everything You Read?

Got this joke today. Just had to share it!!

Fifteen days ago, I read that smoking can kill you;
The next day I stopped smoking.

Twelve days ago, I read that too much red meat cankill you;
The next day I stopped eating red meat..

Eight days ago, I read that drinking can kill you;
The next day I stopped drinking.

Yesterday, I read that having sex can kill you;
This morning I stopped reading.

Wonders Never Cease

Well, for those of you who have been reading this blog from its inception on June 13, 2004 may recall this post about Insurance Companies and the crap I went through after my accident in January last year.

Much to my amazement, pleasantly, I received my renewal notice for my car's insurance which is due in another 2 weeks ... I had to stop, sit down, rub my eyes and then read the premium notice again as I could not believe the amount I saw on it ... It is more than a 60% reduction in my premium, which amounts to approximately US$565, down from a mind boggling, pocket brukkin', tiefin' amount of US$1,500 I paid last year!

My weekend has gotten off to a good start with this news ...
And it just got better when I went online and checked my account and saw that they credited my allowance for June!!!

I'm happy ... can ya tell???
